A New Year + Being the Best Me

I'm back! Is anyone still out there? I know I've been away a while and I do apologise for that. But not too much, because what I've been doing instead is enjoying my final summer holidays before university ends, and of course, going to America.

Side note: I have been checking everyone's blogs daily, I promise, I just have not commented in a while. But yes, I am alive.

I'm back in Brisbane now and university has started up again and it's all getting rather serious, given I will be graduating in around eight months time. It's looking to be a good year though; I've got two steady writing jobs, a killer internship and hopefully more to come lined up. I'm really trying to establish something of myself this year so next year I have some, if limited, credentials when I apply for a job.

Because of this, the blog, while still important to me, is taking a small backseat. This does not mean I do not care. On the contrary, because I care and I only want to put the best out here, I will only be doing this twice a week. One day will be a new recipe, and boy have I got a killer first one. But the other day will be just me, talking. I want to try and make this blog more personal, if everyone is okay with that. So one day I will be talking about my life, what is going on over here, uploading random pictures and most definitely sharing my recent eats and exercise routines. I will also talk about things I want to - mostly they will be associated with food, or body image, or exercise, or whatever strikes my fancy. So here goes - the first of these posts.

At the bottom of this page, please do let me know what you think about this. If you don't like it, I'll just go back to recipe posting, but I cannot promise new and freshly developed recipes consistently.

So, I got Instagram and I love it. I've never taken so many selfies in my life. Follow me here: http://instagram.com/bexgillies

Some great things have been made, including this:

I took this amazing cupcake course by Skill Milk. Worth it, guys. Look at what I did!

I cut my hair, drastically. And changed the colour, again.

I am writing for this amazing website. First post coming soon:

Top Shelf Magazine

I got a great livingsocial deal with a health club in Brisbane city which I am going to try soon. They do a range of fun classes from trampolining to boxing to a whole range of pilates and yoga classes. My gym does not offer these, so I'm taking advantage.

However my gym does offer BodyCombat - which is amazing. Seriously. I feel so kick ass afterwards, despite probably not looking like it.

I have developed a love for the tv show Suits. And the tv show West Wing. I was devastated by the end of Merlin and not interested in the Doctor's new companion.

And finally, I have decided that since it is a new year (well, at least on this blog), I am going to try to be the best me. I know this sounds odd, but sometimes I feel like I am just running through the motions and waiting for something amazing to happen. Then sometimes I go and do something amazing, like going to the U.S. by myself. But most of the time, I feel like I'm waiting for something extraordinary to happen. No more. I am going to try a little more to do extraordinary things. Of course, this resolution is only likely to last until tomorrow morning when I decide I am too scared of people to actually talk to anyone in my first classes of the semester. I will keep you updated.

Now, if you've kept with me through all of that, thanks. Let me know what you think of this new idea - if you want more or less of my thoughts. Thanks for reading, and for sticking with me. As a reward, here is a sneak peek of the utter amazingness coming your way this week:

Have a great week, everyone.

  1. YAY!!! I'm so glad you're back :) Are you going to update us with pictures of your US trip? I'm so curious to see what you've been up to. I really think that the 2 posts/ week blogging schedule sounds like a good idea. Ever since starting my internship I've had to reduce the number of blog posts per week as well. It is a hobby and therefore work comes first. Have a great week!!

  3. Welcome back! I like the idea of doing more personal posts (probably because I don't bake lol... although your recipe posts are always lovely to look at and always inspire me to go out and BUY some yummy baked goods! ;))

    1. Hahaha well I can't help the baking thing. I just don't cook as well as I bake! But I'm glad I still inspire you to EAT baked goods, even if you don't make them. I'm good for something!
